Since ancient times, Shimane Prefecture has been a major producer of iron, using the tatara foundry method and the high-quality iron sand that is prevalent in the region. The roots of Hitachi Metals' present day Yasugi Works extend back to Unpaku Iron & Steel, founded in 1899 by a local ironworks. Hitachi Metals' technologies have continued to evolve along with the times, and the Company now provides its Yasuki Hagane^® steel for use in a broad spectrum of fields, including automotive and electric devices, precision equipment, aviation and atomic energy, and electronics.
