The history of Hitachi Metals' piping components business extends back to the Tobata Foundry Co., which was established by Gisuke Ayukawa in 1910. Production of iron pipe joint fittings—the Company's flagship products at the time—was assumed by the Kitsukawa Mfg. Co., Ltd. (the present day Kuwana Works), which was established in 1922. The product's brand name, "Gourd" symbolized the smooth feel of the product's surface, which was gourd-like, and expresses the outstanding reliability
of our piping components. Today, the Piping Components Company's comprehensive operations range from materials through function and design technologies and include not only cast piping joints and fittings but also plastic piping components and chilled towers, which are coolant supply units used in semiconductor manufacturing.
