| Overview: | Background: The Kyushu Works was established in 1910 as the Tobata Foundry
Co., the first malleable iron foundry in Asia. Tobata Foundry merged with Hitachi,
Ltd. in 1937 but later became independent in 1956, after which the works evolved
as the Tobata Works of Hitachi Metals. In 1973, a cutting-edge branch works that boasted modern technology was constructed in Kanda, Fukuoka-ken, establishing a seminal mass-production system. It moved its headquarters from Tobata to Kanda, Miyako-gun in 1980, and made a new start as the Kyushu Works. Today, the pioneer spirit inherited from the Tobata Foundry remains at the heart of the Kyushu Works' operations. |
